LONDON: A man who threw a shoe at Premier Wen Jiabao during his speech last week at Cambridge University was released on unconditional bail yesterday by a court. Martin Jahnke, a German student at the university, was in court briefly yesterday to face charges in the case, which was adjourned until early March.

Wen has posted a notice on a government website asking British officials to pardon Jahnke. The premier has said he hopes Jahnke would learn from his mistake and gain a better understanding of China.
